Wow. A Concertgebouw Ein Heldenleben. Wow. Has anyone heard RCO Live's first efforts with the Dvorak? How was it performance and recording-wise?

Wow, this could be very interesting. Although, I have to admit that I am having some guilty pleasures with the recent Thielemann version (on RBCD).

I have the Dvorak and while the sound is good, I'm only somewhat interested in the performance. I've listened to it twice and will need to hear it a few more times before I can post an opinion.

Hi Petey,
Must agree wholeheartedly with you about the Thielemann Heldenleben. It is a truly outstanding interpretation. The sound on RBCD is superb. Would love to hear it on SACD.
Jansons' Prom performance in August, with the BRSO, was also excellent even when the hall lights failed in the middle of Des Helden Walstatt!

I was surprised to see this and the Dvorak show up in my local Tower. I appreciate Daland's review, but any second opinions??? I really want this one to be good.

Sorry! I wanted it to be good too, but it ain't. I didn't find it to be as bad as Daland did. I liked Jansons' version, but there are better ones out there (Reiner & Kempe to name but two). Sadly, Daland's right about the sonics - they stink. I think it's an average performance presented in awful sound.

Thank you for confirming Daland's review and saving me a few pounds!
Could anyone tell me whether audience applause at the end of this work (and the Dvorak) has been removed?

There's no applause at the end of the Dvorak, nor the Strauss. At least, none that I can remember.

The off-stage brass were recorded thrillingly - as I listened with headphones. Has anybody heard this on surround? Any comments? I want to buy this.
