I read in the Japanese shop HMV that they will be releasing a batch of SHM-CD records. Thay are at full price (Yen 2.800 each).
Anyone knows what type of prodct is this ? The releases are reprocessed existing ones, mainly of the Universal catalogue.-

SHM-CD
The high quality SHM-CD (Super High Material CD) format features enhanced audio quality through the use of a special polycarbonate plastic. Using a process developed by JVC and Universal Music Japan discovered through the joint companies' research into LCD display manufacturing, SHM-CDs feature improved transparency on the data side of the disc, allowing for more accurate reading of CD data by the CD player laser head. SHM-CD format CDs are fully compatible with standard CD players.
In other words: 16-bit, 44.1 kHz.

It's a CD which has been manufactured using a new process/new material. Despite what the marketing folks like to suggest, this is not a new format. It's a redbook CD with 16bit/44kHz stereo sound, as introduced 27 years ago.

All this information is fine, but someone knows actually how these SHM-CD discs sound ? There are several interesting releases that will not be available in SACD....

P.S. That new plastic is truly, amazingly, unbelievably clear. And the sonic improvement is unbelievable as well.
