Dominique Magnier's "review" of this disc seems like something that for his benefit as well as the rest of us should be the subject of some discussion. It is quite possible that his problem lies within the individual disc, or maybe an interaction between his player and those particular discs.

I have both MTT's first and sixth Mahler symphonies and they both play with no problem in MCH and yield very fine if not quite the most outstanding sound. I find that the dynamic range of the last movement of the 6th is restrained compared with the finest. Otherwise the sound is all one could ask for. I am wondering what the experiences of others have been regarding playing back these discs?

Which review is that?

Edit: Ooops, wonder what the link "show all" is for ....

Actually I'm concerned about this disc, because mine cannot play either. I bought it in HK recently and this is the first SACD I ever had that doesn't play.
Bad pressing?

I went through about three of these discs, and then eventually got a few other different albums that had the same skipping problems on MCH. I realized that it was maybe my player. New Oppo and bam, no problem.

On the other hand, posting these remarks in the reviews section is inappropriate. Giving half a star for sound to a disc which won't play at all seems perverse. Makes a mockery of the ratings system.

I have the same problem with Symphony No 7: The MC SACD does not work any more on my Denon 2910, but works still on my Pioneer 656. It seems that there may be some kind of "rot" in those SFS discs :-(

My Sony SCD-XA777 is very sensitive concerning problematic hybrid SACDs (drop outs with about a dozen SACDs in my collection, which work fine with another player), but it just played the stereo SACD layer of the MTT M7 without a problem.

It's your player.

I was worried because my player has always played every single SACD I put in it (over 400), so there might have been a bad pressing if it has happened to a few people.

That the player is involved, is kind of obvious. But since this is the only of my over 100 SACDs to show this problem, the SACD itself must be somewhat defect, don´t you think? I guess the Pioneer has more tolerance against errors than the Denon.
