Now I'm thinking, if I had this recording from the start, there are a few discs I couldn't rate five stars anymore!

Even the stereo recording puts you in the middle of the hall, and the richness of harmonics and the openness of the sound are the closest I've heard from live so far.

But such boring performances.

For those who don't subscribe, Gramophone ran a comparative piece by Nalen Anthoni on the Mozart Clarinet Concerto in the February 2012 edition. Rates the Andrew Marriner performance "bland and insouciant." The writer liked the performance by Di Casola, but unlike Di Casola's performance of the Weber concertos, the Mozart concerto is on standard CD. the writer picked the Wolfgang Meyer recording with Harnoncourt as the best.

And I pick Robert Marcellus with Szell/Cleveland.

Mozart: Clarinet Concerto, Quintet - Boeykens - This SACD, which has not been reviewed on this site, was recorded in DSD at Galaxy Studios, Mol, Belgium. A balanced, insightful performance by Walter Boeykens.

I don't have it; but if you do, why not do a review of it yourself?

Why not, indeed? I just posted a review of the Walter Boeykens SACD which includes some points of comparison with the Martin Fröst recording.
