Hi Darland
Any comments re the Blumine addition which would make this version stand out against the competition anyway...does it add anything to the performance?...I know the extra piece but never listen to is thru with extra flower bit ? thanks Dave

This is an international release. I'm informed by a site user from Switzerland that this is the start of a complete cycle.

The Blumine movement, which lasts only 6:41, is a charming little piece, but I have never seen it as an integral part of the First Symphony. It is played here separately after the end of the regular four movements.

It is good to hear that BMG are going to release a complete cycle, if only because it shows their commitment to the format. Another composer would have been more desirable.

Thanks for that information.Yes I had two versions of Blumine on lp which were lightweight and I thought it would not have fitted into the middle part of the symphony..Probably would have been ideal as the first track though...Agree comments re commitment and they do have a lot of interesting artists on that label...

You certainly got THAT right!

Appears the recording schedule so far looks something like this:

Feb 2006 - concerts & recording Mahler 2 & 1
April 2006 - concerts & recording Mahler 3
April 2007 - concerts & recording Mahler 5
May 2007 - concerts & recording Mahler 6

As far as releases are concerned Mahler 1 is on its way. I believe 2 will come in March with 3 a bit later this year. What is interesting is Mahler 1 appears to be only available on SACD just like the new LSO Live Beethoven 'Fidelio'. A trend perhaps? If so fine by me!

I wouldn't be surprised if the entire cycle repacked in a budget box as redbooks like Zinman's Struass recordings.

Any news if the cycle will contain a 'completed' 10th and "Das Lied?"

Based on the above schedule and the time its taken to actually issue the first disc.
I think that Seths question "Will they be doing a complete" 10th could be followed by..Will he have written an eleventh by the time that the 10th is released?...
In fact any new version of the 10th.
