I've been sampling the 64fs/128fs/256fs .dff/.dsf files of the scherzo of Mendelssohn's "A Midsummer Night's Dream" at Native DSD, for what's evidently an upcoming release by Ivan Fischer/BFO. The 256fs version sounds superb.

Will this eventually be released, or is it a red herring that will never see the light of day? If the former, has the release date been scheduled?

Another question:
Why is it that DSD surround downloads are so much more expensive than buying a sacd disc?
I don't want to blame Channel Classics; it's seems to be like this whatever the label.

Avoid the download, buy the SACD disc .

Arell,

The price of the SACD has always been too low. The SACD is a niche market but 90% of the buyers just want the normal cd layer who were not interested in this format. I am only 17euros ex shipping.    If I put the price where it should be because of the investment in the equipment of recording SACD, the extra work in preparing the files, pressing the hybrid cd it would be higher but then I could not sell to the larger market.  I did double inventory in the beginning but it was too much with logistics and now too much overstock!

A last point is that I do not wish to compete with my distributors around the world who are working very hard in a difficult market.  Who else is going to support tours of our artists and promote them in the media around the world.   These files are for those that really do appreciate the quality we are offering.  (if one can pay thousands for a quality high end audio system with a high quality DAC, then the extra 5 dollars per file is really not an issue. At least my recordings you can enjoy the rest of your life... try that with your next glass of bier or wine.
Seeing by the interest at the moment, it is indeed not an issue.

Mendelssohn will be coming out next year. I have a number of recordings with Budapest that are on the shelf waiting... coming out now is the Brahms 4th....
greetings

How do you know 90% of Buyers only require the CD layer of a SACD.

Actually it is only 95% in a study done two years ago amongst retailers. Was trying to give the SACD buyer the benefit of the doubt.

So why do you still go to the expense of manufacturing mch SACD ?

Thanks for the clarification.

Any chance the Mendelssohn will be available in at least 128fs?
