Very tempting indeed price-wise. Provided one goes for the whole bundle ie all 7 symphonies,it is probably one of the best among many other bargains from BIS ever.
I am sampling and test listening and trying to make up my mind whether I really need yet another version of Sibelius's symphonies.
During the weekend I already got two other albums from BIS a great Rach 2 coupled with an interesting off the beaten track work by Liadow. Both the playing and the recording and the cover where absolutely wonderful.
I also got a title not yet officially released that whetted my appetite for more.
I am not sure that I will be able to withstand this temptation.
I heard some live Sibelius with Kamu in Singapore last season and it was superb.
What to do Kathmandu?

I've listened to symphonies three through seven so far. Four and five are really very good with long lines and great tension. The sonics are superb. Three, six and seven will take a couple of more listening sessions (they're harder to get into in general, and I haven't had time to concentrate on them). But so far, very good overall impression.

Just picked these up. eClassical really is a fantastic site; I appreciate being able to download MP3 for the iPod and 24-bit for home. Still wish they had surround downloads, though.

That's why I wait for the discs.

I already have these discs and have listened to the whole cycle once. Both the playing and the sound are superb. I have yet to come to a final conclusion regarding the performances. They still have to grow on me, used as I am to the old Lahti/Vänskä CDs I so much love. I listened to this team (orchestra+conductor) play the 5th live at Teatro Colon and it was simply stunning.

Can anyone who has them already tell us if there is applause or other audience noise?

The all symphonies were recorded in studio, so there aren't applauses or other noises.

Great! Thanks for clarifying. BIS, Lahti, Sibelius, Studio... that's all I need to know before placing my order.

We are beta-testing. I know I have said this a long, LONG time, but we're almost there.
Good news is that there will be no price increase for surround, and anyone that has already DL:ed 24-bit Stereo will be able to download the surround version free of any surcharge.
