Just bought this, because it has a 5.1 track, now to see how good it is...

May take a while, but I was excited to see that this is an Elliot Scheiner 5.1 mix, hence the purchase.

It cost me HK$175 (about US$22).

I'd be absolutely shocked if this was any different from the DVD-Audio version, but we'll see.

There's a bonus Live track of "Sweet Home Alabama" that I don't recall being on the DVD-A, is it similarly in 5.1 surround?

Oooh, now I'm very intrigued! I've got the DVD-A, but a m/c version of Sweet Home Alabama might justify a blu ray buy.

I'm listening the (ripped) DVD-A version just now and now wish Elliot had given their first two albums the 5.1 treatment. Southern Surroundings is a titillating tease that satisfies, but defiantly leaves you wanting more!

I think I'll pass on the BDA because I never realised Sweet Home Alabama is a Live cut, so am not too hopeful it's as discrete as the other tracks.

The multitracks for Sweet Home Alabama are reportedly missing, making a surround mix impossible.

Yeah I was thinking that myself. I also wonder whether there was some issue with the multitrack tapes to Free Bird because when I last played the multichannel version, I'm sure the ending was different to the regular version. It's just started playing, so I'll find out in 10 minutes...

EDIT: I've no idea whether the ending of Free Bird is different, perhaps it simply sounds different because of the 5.1 mix. I've no idea and it's not important because Southern Surroundings sounds great and I'll take it as it is :)

I have the DVDA and have thoroughly enjoyed it. I am not a big fan of Southern Rock or Lynyrd Skynyrd but the DVDA is great both sonically and surroundwise. I agree the best tracks are the ones that had Al Kooper involved, in other words the first two albums.
I never believed Lynyrd Skynyrd could ever sound this good sonically but I was wrong as proved by this disc. I'm even tempted to get their first two albums that have been released on SACD.
