I am a big fan of good classical piano recordings thus would welcome recommendations. I'll start with the BIS recording of

Haydn: Piano Sonatas 50-52 "The London Sonatas" - Wallisch

In my system it just sound stunning, maybe the most natural piano Sacd I own.

Zofo's piano duets (four hands-one piano) on BD-A are highly recommended. They have a release of celestial sounding works called Zoforbit, which includes an incredible performance of The Planets, as originally scored by Holst himself!

It's a stereo and multichannel release, so you can choose (hardware permitting) the format you prefer in I think it sounds out of this world :D

This knocked my socks off when I first heard it:

Prokofiev: Cinderella, Ravel: Ma Mère l'Oye - Argerich/Pletnev

By the way, the recording you mention is by Linn, not BIS.

Maybe you should sit down before you press the "play" function on your remote control before you listen to this:
Ravel: Orchestral & virtuoso piano - Larderet

I've never heard a better performance with sound quality to match of Ravel's piano works, before or since. Easily the best piano SA-CD I own.

I would like to hear Ravel's complete piano works by the pianist. That would be an amazing feat.

This 2L disc of works by Berg, Beethoven, and Webern gets my vote...at least for sound quality. (Very good performances, too.)

Mirror Canon - Tor Espen Aspaas

My stereo system consists of the largest JBL studio monitors, biamplified circa1980. I will be the first person to confess that they have “colored sound”, but when it comes to reproducing solo piano at realistic volume with no compression, particularly Steinway D, the sound is spectacular.
Nearly 50% on my listening these days is solo piano, here are some of my recommendations;

Arts; Liszt “Visions” Martin Berkofsky
BIS; Freddy Kempf ,Mussorgsky pictures
BIS; Sudbin Rachmaninov Sonata No.2
BIS; Schumann, Freddy Kempf
Caro-Mitis; Beethoven Sonatas Igor Tchetuev (I have volumes 1-5)
Caro-Miyis; R. Schumann Yuri Martynov
Sony; Liszt Volodos
Sony; Volodos in Vienna
Sony; Volodos Schubert
Turtle; 3 volumes (Liszt Yoram Ish-Hurwitz)
Velut Luna; Liszt Grand Etudes Massimo Gon

Tellefsen: Complete piano works - Larsen

Enescu: Three Piano Suites - Luiza Borac
Enescu: Two Piano Sonatas - Luiza Borac

Madsen: 24 Preludes & Fugues - Jens Harald Bratlie (but must have subwoofer, or the bass is insipid)

Brahms solo works on MDG, four SACDs so far, played on old instruments.

+1, for the reasons Fugue mentions.

Also recommended:

2L: Polyphonic Dialogues - Joachim Kwetzinsky

BIS: Beethoven, Schubert, Chopin: Menahem Pressler

Caro Mitis: Schnittke: Complete Piano Sonatas - Igor Tchetuev

My audio system evolved slowly during the first 10 years that I acquired a collection of SACDs. Then two changes of components occurred in quick succession.

Solo piano SACDs help me to recalibrate (subjectively) my current system, as do string quartet recordings.

His Scriabin CD is also wonderfully recorded. The playing is also superb on both.

Just my opinion, generally speaking BIS offers the best solo piano recordings, and yes the Scriabin/Sudbin is another fine piano from BIS.

The one BIS that caught me by surprise was the Mussorgsky Pictures/Freddy Kempf, after hearing the finale late at night at full volume I was left wondering why anyone in his right mind would want to orchestrate this piano composition!
