I think it's more to do with conscientiousness than cost. Using stock reproductions of fine art can't be that expensive for Hyperion (after all, budget labels do the same, albeit with very different results), but they obviously have someone in-house with a good eye who chooses pictures that are both appropriate and appealing, knows how to integrate them into an overall design, and has sound typographical judgement.

I'll take Pentatone's bland artwork on multichannel sacds over Hyperion's fine art on stereo rbcds any day.

That's a false antithesis. I used Hyperion as an example because someone mentioned them above, but there's no reason in principle why Hyperion couldn't produce multichannel SACDs or Pentatone attractive artwork.

Whatever, you're the one who drew the comparison, I merely commented upon it.

Obviously, the artwork takes a back seat to the musical and audio quality, but it does add a pleasing touch. For the record, I have never not purchased a recording simply because I didn't like the cover. I miss the old Pentatone color scheme/design for a purely practical reason: I can easily spot one by its distinctive design on my CD shelves!

FWIW, I quite like the Cybele minimalist colour motif. The titles I have are quite striking as they stand out prominently on my storage shelf.

The colour of the spine of this title is vibrant teal.
