Dear wolfE,

This info is correct. In November, we are going to re-issue the old Quadraphonic recordings from Deutsche Grammophon on SACD. More information will be available soon on www.pentatonemusic.com. For now for more info about the RQR series, please have a look at http://www.pentatonemusic.com/series/3.

Kind Regards,
PENTATONE

Does this mean the Philips Quad recordings are finished?

Be Christian, steviev.

Considering what MoFi, AP and AF charge for their stereo only reissues, thankfully, Pentatone at a VERY canny price allowed us to hear these older Quad treasures in multichannel with extremely pleasing results, at least IMHO!

Buy all and that extra two channels. Would yield a highly rewarding result.

Dear Pentatone,
thank you for the clarifícation!
I would be pleased, if these re-releases would be the beginning of a new series, for instance the second Karajan-Beethoven-cycle seemed to be a quadrophonic recording?! - By the way, there are so many great stereo-recordings in the Universal catalogue worth being re-released on SACD ...

Dear everybody, we are pleased to see so much excitement around this series. These re-releases are indeed the beginning of a larger series. For 2015 we plan to re-release approximately 20 quadraphonic recordings from Deutsche Grammophon. We are working on possible collaborations with other labels at the moment, we will let you know about further developments.

Best Regards,
PENTATONE

Please try to get a similar deal with EMI!
Some of my gems from the 70s include quite a few both symphonic and opera titles that are in very good SQ in stereo and on LP and also some of the best ever recorded performances of those works.
I have at least twenty quad LPs from EMI.
All those Karajan BPO,70s releases make my mouth water if I could get those in digital hi res as downloads.
A few days ago I played their SUPERB Verdi Trovatore on LP and absolutely loved it.MY LPs say quad recording playable in stereo.

And not only in MCh: also in stereo.

Pentatone always do an excellent job with their historical materials as well, and I am looking forward to these DGG re-issues even as a stereo listener. Some of the items in the pipeline should thus be a real treat, both musically as well as sonically.

I wonder if Karajan's last? analogue Opera recording for DGG, Tosca from 1980, will be among those DGG quad masters.
I played it a few days ago comparing it to the just released Callas Pretre as download, but on LP.
But good as the Callas is in some ways,Karajan's Tosca was in a completely different league, having one of the world's best orchestras in those days instead of the so so one for Callas.
And an unjustly underrated Tosca in Katia Ricciarelli coupled with THE Cavaradossi of the 70s Jose´ Carreras, who also recorded the role for the famous Philips LPs and Pentatone SACD set.
Callas is mainly interesting for the drama and Callas with Gobbi. But SQ wise it is not nearly the equal of either Karajan's or Colin Davis' on Philips imho.
The Philips set has the master singer Ingvar Wixell as Scarpia and Karajan has Raimondi who is also very good imo.
Last but not least. "Karajan started rehearsing where many other conductors finished."
For sheer beauty of playing and singing it is the best Tosca imho.
And SQ wise it is better than average for DGG in those days. Not bad at all actually.

dear Pentatone, WONDERFUL NEWS about your DG program. Will wait with keen anticipation to see what comes out next year.

Any chance of getting an advance peek at what's being lined up for 2015?

HI Konrad,
yes, I'm looking forward to these as well, though I note the Karl Richter Bach has now disappeared from the release planning.

I note that PentaTone have released quad remasters, not other types of MC. I have the original stereo/MC SACDs of the Kleiber Beethoven 5 & 7, Karajan's 1976 B9 and Mozart Requiem, but these were released as 5.1 MC. The original Gramophone magazine review of the Karajan 1970s Beethoven cycle referred to multitrack recording, not quad. So the original quad recordings may only have been for the early 170s before being phased out.

PS I bought the biography of Sviatoslav Richter by Rasmussen. Absolutely fascinating.
