Only for information: This recording is also issued on Gershwin: Rhapsody in Blue - Fiedler
to a much cheaper price. Highly recommended.

Just as the other re-releases (Scheherazade, Pictures, Pines) this AP-re-release surpasses the older Soundmirror-version concerning the sound quality.- Hope the series will be successful and continued.

How, in your experience, do they differ?

More natural timbre, full-bodied instruments, deeper soundstage. In summary: nearer to the analogue source. Though the older versions do not sound bad, this is an obvious improvement. - If you have the opportunity, make a try.

Thanks, I was just interested in what you found more appealing in this AP mastering. That they sound different is to be expected, since they were mastered by different people with different objectives.

Each mastering is the expert opinion of the people involved of what it could sound like with today's tools, and how close to be true to the original tape.

I agree its very good ,can not see the point IMO spending a rip-off £31 on the latest version.

More likely how the target demographic would like it to sound.

Not sure what you mean - who would that target demographic be, and what is the sound they're after? Analogue-like?

I think the target demographic are those who follow Steve Hoffman religiously.

Yep, just gotta turn up the "presence" knob, and add a little reverb and phaseiness. Does wonders for those old dry sounding tapes.
