How does this OOP Hybrid MCH SACD compared with the single layer 2ch only SHM-SACD?

Natalie Cole: Ask a Woman Who Knows

Thanks,

It happens that I have both issues. Let's take my personal favourite of track 10, stereo layer comparison. The SHM-SACD has a bit more roll off in the high frequency with slightly added bottom slam. Singers separation (Diana on the left, Nat on the right from the listener perspective) sounds more natural on the SHM SACD version.

The original SACD is OOP anyway so the SHM-SACD pricing (higher than average SACDs) should be acceptable to you.

Thanks for the info. So I take it that the 2ch performance is better in the shm- sacd. At least that put one doubt away.

Is the 2ch in the shm-sacd good enough to forget about the mch from the old release?

I have a feeling I need to get both for the best of both 2ch n mch.

Thanks.

Cheers,
WPS

Nice album. Sounds fine in both Stereo and Multichannel SACD here.

the surround mix isn't very adventurous but the 1st issue SACD sounds nice in multichannel.

Should you wish to get the multichannel version then you have no choice but to get the OOP version.

However, should you wish to just enjoy the stereo version, the SHM SACD is really a good one to get.
