Was just reading up on SSS: Sticky Shed Syndrome which plagued a VERY large batch of professional Scotch recording tape from the 1970's on which The Wall was recorded. Incubation and baking of the tapes helps a bit but I'm sure these PF masters were heavily utilized in the 70's to create vinyl and cassette products.

But not the multi-track tapes, and neither the stereo master.

In the analogue era, the pressing plants received a dub of the master tape, sometimes even only a third generation copy.

That's why Mobile Fidelity came up with the idea for "Original Master Recording" reissues made directly from the master tape, which is the standard today for high quality reissues.

Perhaps I'm misinterpreting your post, but ALL multitracks of The Wall were likely recorded on that bad batch of Scotch reels which has created a nightmarish scenario for James Guthrie in creating a 5.1 mix for PF's classic.

Not certain how many classic albums were affected by the switch to this bad batch of Scotch recording tape but I understand it was significant.

Unless safety masters were created on alternate 'unaffected' reels, the baking process is de rigeur for making them at least playable (usually only once or twice) to transfer to another medium.

At least that's MY understanding, Claude.

I agree with that aspect. I was just referring to the last sentence, about the master tapes being degraded because of excessive use.

My local record dealer just told me that the ATD reissue has been cancelled. He doesn't state why..

Too bad. I was really looking forward for it

Nothing on Brain Damage, Acoustic Sounds, Super Deluxe Edition or even Amazon about a cancellation. Except of course that there's no release date but I guess we're used to that. I'd think they've put too much work into a brand spankin' new 5.1 mix to just drop it entirely. Does your dealer have any hard information regarding a cancellation? Until I hear anything official from the Brain Damage/Acoustic Sounds camps I'll keep considering it a goer and remain excited about its eventual release/escape.

Since Acoustic Sounds (AP) is releasing Amused To Death I would only believe the cancellation nonsense if it's announced on Acoustic Sound's OWN website....which, as of today, IT IS NOT.

I just typed Roger Waters in the search box and it still shows to be announced.

And with PF's mch SACD of Wish You Were Here on Acoustic Sounds ALL TIME best seller list, unlikely a cancellation will ever occur of Water's Amused to Death.

Patience.

I still have it pre-ordered though Amazon since September of last year.

Ditto!

Wonder if it'll be a 2 disc hybrid SACD set since it is a double album. So far, NO indication of such on Acoustic Sound's website.

Ironically, the OOP RBCD from 1992 is currently selling for $160 New and $500(!) used from Amazon third party sellers.
