I purchased this SACD as a bit of a joke because I thought it was ridiculous to bring a punk album such as Never Mind the Bollocks to the SACD realm.

To say I was wrong would be the understatement of the century. There is absolutely no comparison between this SACD version and previous CD release.

If you want to know what it would sound like to have the Sex Pistols in your living room this is about as close as you will ever get.

It's loud yet not compressed. It's clean, and yet not sterile. It's detailed, although not fatiguing.

The separation of instruments and vocals is amazing - you can actually follow individual instruments or vocal with ease unlike the original.

Perfect is a strong word but I think this one is about as good as it can get. Absolutely amazing SACD that will see all previous versions gathering dust.

I would also conclude the same findings as tdunster. The cleanest presentation of this classic punk album. I'm hearing things from this that I have not heard or perhaps noticed before like the very end of EMI when John blows a raspberry. This album was never the pinnacle in production but I was in my teens when this came out and for those who wish to reminisce those days you will not do better than this. I have not sat and listened to this whole album for probably 30 years or so but I did today and found myself singing alone.... Excellent stuff! Highly recommended.

Sonics:
I do not agree with the previous reviews, especially saying this release is not compressed. The SACD layer has a DR of 8, whereas I have a redbook CD with a DR of 13. The SACD is another 'loudness' victim. Hardly audiophile material, but yet another hi-res release spoiled by irresponsible dynamic compression.

I agree with jcarr. Dynamics have been compressed and the sound is fatiguing. Disappointing since this was supposedly taken from the original UK tapes. Wasted opportunity.

When this was released I never bought in to the hype. I was too occupied with my Zeppelin, Who, Floyd, Can, and Stones albums. So now in the year 2014 I finally decide to give this a fair chance. And I am so glad I did! I now understand why this was hailed as an important rock album. It truly captures the spirit of the time and their playing is pretty damn good! I love the in your face intensity each and every song has, and this easily stands next to the first Clash album! Now lets talk about the sonics...this is not compressed as some others have mentioned. Now the sound quality is not on the same level as some of the other SA-CD/SHM titles, but for this type of music and the way it was recorded originally, this baby really sounds great! It is clean, the bass nice and tight and decent separation through out! It screams to be played loud as do most CDs on this format.
