Reviews: Maeve O'Boyle: All My Sins

Well I'm hooked. Another excellent artist in the Linn stables.
I always worry about comparing artists to their peers so I hope Maeve is not insulted when I say her music style reminds me a little of KD Lang (at her best).
The album opens with 'Old Greebwich Time' co-written with Ricky Ross of Deacon Blue fame and closes with 'Pray It Never Happens' co-written with Francis Macdonald of Teenage Fanclub fame.
Overall excellent song writing and music but my highlight is the brilliantly orchestrated 'Romeo' and its driving-through-Glencoe-with-the-top-down feel (on a glorious summers day of course). Or is it the more sedate 'Butterfly'. I look forward to more.

Sonics: This is a Hybrid Multichannel 5.1 SACD and the sound as you'd expect is very good with quiet a heavy bass presence. The Stereo SACD layer is excellent as well. It was produced by Calum Malcolm who also has bands like 'The Blue Nile' to his production credits.

As usual you can always listen at Linn Records web site.

If I agree the previous review concerning an artist that has a real vocal signature, I'm really upset with the multicanal version which is an extended stereo.

Don't mixing guyz know that multichannel doesn't mean stereo.
3 layers on SACD (why some of them don't let themselves go on these surround layers !!!)
I don't get it why they are so stubborn !

I enjoy the music very much. Excellent collection of songs. The sonics can be much improved upon. Stereo layer is loud (had to turn my attenuator 2 steps down from my normal listening level), and a tad compressed. Slightly veiled as well. Have not listened to the Multichannel layer.
