Reviews: Verdi & Puccini: Arias - Leontyne Price

This is one of the best discs in the series. Fortunately, most of the tracks were recorded in three-channel technology and show Leontyne Price at her very best. For the first time her voice can be heard in all its beauty and splendour. The orchestral accompaniment is also first-class. Especially in the excerpts from Puccini operas the sheer richness of the sound is overwhelming. The arias from "Il Trovatore" were taken from a complete recording of that opera (the cast includes Richard Tucker and Leonard Warren). Who would not want to have that on SACD?

Wow!! Magnificent voice by Miss Price that is rendered beautifully and alive in this sacd. Rca Living Stereo recordings are extremely impressive with gorgeous sound.

If you love opera this sacd offers you a compilation of Price's different opera's. I will not go into detail and ramble on about this performance compared to that performance. I will only say that I can;t believe that these master tapes are almost 50 years old. They sound so alive and pristine. There is no tape wear or audible hissing. Just glorious sound.

Price's voice is rendered so perfectly....so wonderfully alive. Her tones and notes captured magnificently. It's hard not to be moved by this sacd, her voice and the music.

This is a rather short sacd but it's also very cheap as well. The quality can not be overstated.

Highly recommended.

DO NOT MISS THIS DISC!!! As stated in one of the other reviews, this is one of the very best discs in the Living Stereo SACD catalog.

Price is a soprano who was a treasure to all her fans, her sound and musicality were a joy to many of us for decades. To have the sound of these master tapes of her singing in our living rooms in SACD is nothing short of wonderful.

SACD finally catches the true sound, color, and power of her voice.

BRAVO!!!

WOW, I can't believe the quality on this disc, about a week or two I went wild and purchased about 17 Living stereo sacd. Today I play this one for the first time, and I was floored from the first key. It's just epic, and bold, yet beautiful. I read what other have said and it pretty much on point, but what they say can described the true sheer intensity of this disc, and the womans voice. All sort of emotions were conjured, it's really rich recording which maintains fresh for it's 1961 date. I'm incredibly happy I purchased this one without truly knowing what I was getting myself into. If you're an Opera fan, and don't own this one, run and get it, if your not this is great way to get into it. Happy listening.

This classic recital – The Blue Album – has never sounded better.

Price is in glorious early voice for one of the all-time greatest opera recitals.

The sound improvement is astounding. Wide sound stage with Price standing front and center. Two examples of sound improvement: In “Chi il bel sogno di Doretta”, Price’s floated pianissimmi sounded slightly wiry on the LP, even more so on the CD incarnation. The SACD provides the full gorgeous bloom of Price’s pianissimmi. The veiled brass (LP/CD) in the closing of “Tu, tu piccolo iddio!” is gloriously full.
