This will address the 'Symphonic Dances', for which I bought the disc. I've not yet listened to the Stravinsky.

My absolutely favorite disc for determining just how transparent a system is...or isn't. I love the Dvorak and especially the Elgar Serenades, and the recording of the latter is simply the most 'see-throughable*' music recording I've ever heard. In spite of good-but-not-great multichannel sonics, this is now my favorite Tchaik. 4. Jarvi does indeed pay attention to performing this work, and I LOVE his slower-than-normal tempos in the slower sections. For decades, Boult's 1978 recording with the LPO has been my favorite of this work, but it now has serious competition, sound- and performance-wise.
