These are likeable performances. I thought the big band sound might have come from being recorded in a church. The great Sir Alexander recorded this in 1995 the year of his death and yet the performances have the verve and enthusiasm of a young man in his prime. The brass of the RPO roar out with an excellent rasp and the strings respond with a silky athleticism. 4.5 stars from me for an excellent digital ... more

Excellent recording of the piano, beautifully clear and with excellent presence. I have very much enjoyed these performances - the RPO on very good form in support.
