I recently spent some time comparing the various audio tracks on this release, after I found the SACD sourround track to be somewhat lacking in the bass area.
I compared the following tracks: CD stereo, SACD stereo, DTS 5.1 and SACD 5.1.

The surround mix is not very inventive with no directional use of the surrounds and a totally silent centre channel. It seems the stereo mix is also being fed to the rears, albeit at a much lower level.
The surround track is nevertheless successful in immersing you in the music to a large degree. ... more |

This is probably the best live recording I've ever heard. It was recorded directly in DSD surround and sonics are fantastic. Play this one loudly. If your speakers are up to the challenge, there will be no distortion even at very high volume levels. If you like Allan Holdsworth, this SACD is a must! |

The SACD is surround, an immersing mix without directional effects, which I think suits soundtracks and classical music quite well. I seem to recall that the piano and oboe tended to sound a little shrill on the CD. This is improved on the SACD, if not completely perfect. I guess there are ... more |
