Does not get much worse than this. Not only did they remix the albums, they torched the dynamics & applied excessive EQ. This is how you destroy works of art.

These are the original mixes, and the mastering holds its ground against the original Ludwig LP.
After hearing the MFSL, I tossed my remixed DCC out the car window and watched a semi truck smash it into a million pieces. |

Midnight Blue was the 1st jazz album I ever listened to a few years back, and its still my favorite. All of these AP/Blue Note titles (50?) are significant upgrades over previous redbook editions.

This Audio Fidelity disc contains the best digital masterings for most of these songs. They are the vintage mixes found on the orig. LP's. The MFSL SACD's are hit or miss partially due to some of them using remixed source tapes.

I agree with jcarr. Dynamics have been compressed and the sound is fatiguing. Disappointing since this was supposedly taken from the original UK tapes. Wasted opportunity. |
